Are U OK ("we", "our", or "the app") is a daily check-in application designed to help you stay connected with people who care about you. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information.
In short: We only collect what's necessary to make the app work. We don't sell your data. We don't track you for advertising.

- Account Information: Your email address and display name when you create an account
- Check-in Data: Timestamps of when you check in to confirm you're okay
- Emergency Contacts: Names and email addresses of people you designate as emergency contacts
- Device Information: Push notification tokens to send you reminders (if you enable notifications)
- App Settings: Your preferences such as reminder times and notification settings
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide the Are U OK service:
- To track your daily check-ins and maintain your check-in streak
- To send you reminder notifications when you haven't checked in
- To notify your emergency contacts if you don't check in for 48 hours
- To verify emergency contact email addresses
- To communicate important service updates
Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We only share information in these limited circumstances:
- With Your Emergency Contacts: If you don't check in for 48 hours, we notify the emergency contacts you've added. They receive your name and the fact that you haven't checked in.
- Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services to operate the app:
- Supabase: For secure data storage and authentication
- Postmark: For sending email notifications
- Apple Push Notification Service: For sending push notifications to your device
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:
- All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections
- Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text
- Access to user data is restricted to essential operations only
- We use industry-standard authentication protocols
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:
- Your personal information will be deleted within 30 days
- Check-in history will be permanently removed
- Your emergency contacts will be notified that they've been removed
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update or correct your information through the app
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data
- Withdraw Consent: Disable notifications or remove emergency contacts at any time
Emergency Contact Privacy
If someone adds you as an emergency contact:
- You'll receive an email notification informing you
- We store your email address to send escalation alerts if needed
- You can request to be removed by contacting us or the person who added you
- Creating an account is optional - you can receive alerts without signing up
Children's Privacy
Are U OK is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
